BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Blazer Softball dropped its series opener against Memphis, 5-3. The loss drops UAB to 3-10, tied with Memphis for last in the American. UAB's bright spot of the game was Carlie Wilkins's first career home run, a long ball over the videoboard in right field.

Memphis scored first, leading off the second inning with a single, followed by a sacrifice bunt. The runner scored from second on a single to centerfield.

The Tigers stringed together three hits to lead off the third inning, driving in a pair of runs on a double to the gap. After a sacrifice bunt, Memphis drove in its third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right.

UAB scored broke onto the scoreboard in the third inning with two outs. Jaycee Holt singled through the left side after a long at-bat, then advanced to second on a passed ball. Ashlyn Shirah doubled on a ball off the shortstop's glove, driving in Holt.

Wilkins gave the Blazers life in the sixth inning with a towering blast over the videoboard in right field. Wilkins' two-run shot was the first of her career.

Olivia Cummings got the start for UAB, going just two innings for her shortest appearance of the season. Cummings allowed four earned runs on six hits. Cummings struck out two Tigers without walking or hitting a batter.

Tait Davidson relieved Cummings, throwing five innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits. Davidson walked two and struck out two.
