UAB Sweeps UTEP in the First Round of the Conference USA Tournament

YOUNGSVILLE, La. - The UAB beach volleyball team swept UTEP, 3-0, in the opening round of the Conference USA Championship on Thursday. The Blazers secured victories on Courts 1, 3 and 4 to clinch the match and advance to the second round on Friday at 8:30 a.m., where they will face No. 6 seed Missouri State, who upset No. 3 seed FIU.
The clinching point came on Court 3, where Olivia Chychrun and Ava Grace Knott defeated Averie Threet and Krista Paegle, 21-10, 21-19. Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant earned a straight-set win on Court 1 over Madison Hill and Paulina Acuna, 21-16, 21-13, while Isabel Day and Claudia Stockard secured a 21-10, 21-10 victory on Court 4 against Iana Loera and Emma Schubert.
Haas and Stant also made history with their win, setting program records for single-season individual victories and single-season wins as a duo with 27. The pair has now won 14 consecutive matches.
Stockard moved into sole possession of second place in program history for career wins on Court 4 with 24, while extending her single-season record on that court to 17.
With the victory, UAB extended its winning streak to 15 matches and improved to 25-9 on the season. It marks the second consecutive year the Blazers have won their opening-round match.
