Dereje Breaks 400m Hurdles School Record

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field wrapped up the weekend across town at Samford as well as down in Baton Rouge at the LSU Alumni Gold.
The weekend was highlighted by junior hurdler Jasmine Dereje, who broke the school record in the 400m Hurdles on Saturday in Baton Rouge. Dereje ran a time of 58.34 seconds to break Nakeshia Thomas' 26-year old record by .10 seconds.
Lidia Longo ran her personal best time in the 800m. Longo finished the race with a time of 2:16.39.
Kenlie Nelson registered her best 1500m time of her career on Saturday. Nelson finished eighth of 16 with a time of 4:37.68.
Ava Brooks placed second in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Josh Reidinger Invitational. Brooks finished with a time of 11:27.69.
Fiona Eastman's season high of 3.66m came on Saturday. Eastman tied with Victoria Freeland for the top mark on the team with both finishing in seventh place overall.
The Blazers travel to Starkville next weekend for the Maroon and White Invite. Meet information and schedules will be posted at a later date.
