BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's basketball head coach Andy Kennedy has announced the addition of transfer guard TJ Caldwell from Southern Utah.
"Excited to have TJ join Blazer Basketball," Kennedy said. "TJ is a three level scorer who has the size, strength and athleticism necessary to come in and immediately impact our team. TJ is a former four star prospect who played at the prestigious Faith Family Academy and then garnered two years of experience in the SEC before his last season at Arkansas State. His basketball journey has prepared him well for this opportunity."
Caldwell, a 6-foot-4 guard from Dallas, Texas, spent the past season at Arkansas State, appearing in 32 games. He averaged 9.4 points, 1.0 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per contest while scoring in double figures in 14 games. He recorded a career-high 20 points at SMU, shooting 34 percent from three-point range and 83 percent from the free-throw line.
Prior to Arkansas State, Caldwell spent three seasons at Ole Miss, where he redshirted during the 2024–25 season. In 2023–24, he appeared in 32 games, averaging 18.5 minutes per contest. He shot 39.1 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from beyond the arc (20-for-57), while converting 74.5 percent of his free throws. Caldwell averaged 5.5 points and 2.3 rebounds, highlighted by a career-high 18 points on Jan. 30, 2024, against rival Mississippi State, where he knocked down a career-best four three-pointers.
As a freshman in 2022–23, Caldwell played in 31 games with seven starts, averaging 4.7 points per game while shooting 33.3 percent from the field. He also shot 78.8 percent from the free-throw line and totaled 38 assists. His season-high of 12 points came in back-to-back games at Oklahoma State on Jan. 28 and against Kentucky on Jan. 31.
At the high school level, Caldwell played at Faith Family Academy, where he was rated a four-star prospect by ESPN and a three-star prospect by 247Sports.
He becomes the eighth addition to UAB's 2026 signing class, joining high school prospects Jakobi Sharp and Korie Corbett, junior college transfers Tim Holliday and Shah Hall, and Division I transfers Jeremy Elyzee, Deuce Jones, and Justyn Fernandez.
