BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB football continued spring practice on Thursday as the Blazers shift their focus toward their second scrimmage of the spring, set for Saturday at Legacy Pavilion. With the first scrimmage in the books, head coach Alex Mortensen said the emphasis now turns to improvement and execution as the team progresses through installation. "It'll probably be very similar," Mortensen said of the second scrimmage. "The biggest thing…we want to see improvement in a lot of fundamentals."
As schemes continue to be implemented, Mortensen noted that the next phase is about translating knowledge into consistent execution across all positions. "We want to see really good fundamental execution of what we're doing," he said. "Whether it's tackling, use of our hands, pass protection, quarterback footwork, quarterback eyes — all the little things."
Saturday's scrimmage will serve as another key evaluation point as the Blazers continue to develop both physically and mentally heading into the final stretch of spring. That stretch will culminate with the UAB Spring Showcase on April 18 at 10 a.m. at Legacy Pavilion, where fans will have the opportunity to see the team in a live scrimmage setting. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m. Admission is free.
