BIRMINGHAM - LeAndrew Bass led all scorers with 23 points and P.J. Arnold came off the bench to add 21 as UAB (10-8, 3-3 C-USA) defeated Charlotte (10-8, 2-4) 81-61 in Conference USA action Wednesday evening at Bartow Arena.
The 49ers struggled with cool shooting percentages all evening, finishing 20-60 overall from the field for 33 percent. UAB shot 49 percent overall from the field and hit 52 percent of its field goal attempts in the second half.
Bass scored 13 of his points in the second half as UAB enlarged its 34-29 halftime lead steadily, eventually leading by as many as 23 in the final minute.
Joining Bass and Arnold in double-figures for UAB was forward David Walker, who had 10 points. Center Will Campbell had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Blazers.
Guard Diego Guevara led Charlotte with 12 points, followed by forwards Cam Stephens and Jobey Thomas with 10 each.
