BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - LaVar Glover returned an interception for a touchdown and Antwan Peek recovered a blocked punt for another score as Cincinnati beat UAB 31-17 in the rain Saturday.
Glover intercepted Jeff Aaron's pass and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown to give Cincinnati (3-2, 3-0 Conference USA) a 21-10 lead less than a minute into the third quarter.
UAB (2-4, 1-2) closed to 21-17 when Aaron hit Roddy White with a 24-yard touchdown pass.
Later, Patrick Burchfield intercepted a pass by Cincinnati's Gino Guidugli near midfield, but the play was nullified by a roughing the passer penalty.
With 3:19 left in the third quarter, Cincinnati's Derrick Adams blocked a punt by UAB's Ross Stewart. The ball was batted toward the UAB goal line before Peek scooped it up inside the 5 and scored, giving Cincinnati a 28-17 lead.
Jonathan Ruffin kicked a 38-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Cincinnati.
Cincinnati led 14-10 after a first half marked by strong wind. UAB had the wind at its back in the first quarter, and quickly jumped to a 10-0 lead.
Aaron scored on a 4-yard run, capping an eight-play, 65-yard drive to put UAB in front 7-0. A 44-yard field goal by Nick Hayes gave the Blazers a 10-0 lead with 45 seconds left in the first quarter.
But Cincinnati took control with the wind at its back in the second quarter. Guidugli hit Jon Olinger with an 8-yard scoring pass to cut UAB's lead to 10-7.
Guidugli's 65-yard pass to Ray Jackson was the key play in the 83-yard drive. A 1-yard run by Jackson with 41 seconds left in the first half gave Cincinnati the lead.
UAB's Jegil Dugger led all rushers with 85 yards on 23 carries.
