CINCINNATI, Ohio - Cincinnati scored the game-winning goal at the 87:17 mark of the match to defeat the UAB men's soccer team 3-2 in C-USA action Sunday afternoon.
UAB (12-3, 6-2 C-USA) started off the scoring in the 21st minute of the match as forward Flavio Monteiro headed in a long pass from midfielder Jose Rayo.
The Bearcats (6-6-3, 4-3-1 C-USA) evened the match up seventeen minutes later as Thomas Weable knocked in a deflected shot at the 37:23 mark. Sean O'Connor garnered the assist.
The match would remain even at the end of the first half.
UAB was first to get on the board in the second half as forward Rogerio Oliveira followed in a header attempt from Monteiro in the 64th minute of play.
Cincinnati evened up the score for the second time at the 70:38 mark as Scott Lyons knocked in a cross shot for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats scored the game-winner with less than three minutes remaining in the match as Brandon Dobbs knocked in a cross shot. Josh Gardner and Matt Hayden had the assists.
The Blazers are back in action Friday as they host TCU in C-USA action. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at West Campus Field.
