HOUSTON, Texas - The UAB volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Houston on Friday evening at Yeoman Fieldhouse. The Blazers fall to 0-8 in conference play and 1-19 overall while the Cougars improve to 6-16, 4-5 C-USA. UAB was led by setter Jenna Link's 16 assist, 10 dig performance and by Cassi Ociesa's eight kills and match-high six total blocks. Brianna Galvin also added ten digs for the Blazers.
"We've been doing a better job approaching conference matches, but we're still struggling to put together consistent rallies and performances," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "Cassi Ociesa had a good solid match and Brianna Galvin continues to be a rock for us on defense. We just need some of our players to respond to matches like this and react with better performances."
The Cougars started things off with a lopsided 30-12 victory in game one thanks in part to 11 attack errors by UAB. Game two saw the Blazers record twice as many kills as errors, but Houston's .333 hitting percentage was too much to handle as the Cougars came out on top, 30-18. UH would then finish off the match with a 30-19 win in the third and final game.
Houston's Becca Sartori, Kelly McAnelly and Loure Dews combined for 39 kills while Jaci Gonzalez contributed a match-best 20 digs.
UAB will now take on the TCU Horned Frogs Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas.
