CINCINNATI, Ohio --- The UAB volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Conference USA foe Cincinnati here on Friday night. The Blazers lost 30-19, 30-20 and 30-12.
Against the Bearcats, sophomore middle blocker Cassi Ociesa led the Blazers with a season-high .389 hitting percentage. Ociesa also led UAB (1-13, 0-3) with 11.0 points and two block assists. Ociesa and Isabel Oquendo both had nine kills in the match. Oquendo also added nine points to the Blazers' cause.
"Cassi Ociesa really stepped up for us today," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "She was much more comfortable in her outside position. As a team, we had much better ball control. That is going to help us to be much more competitive."
Julie Dupont led the Bearcats with match highs of 26.0 points and 22 kills in the three-game match. Myanna Hellsten had eight kills, five block assists and 10.5 points for Cincinnati, while Rachel Torblaa added six kills to the cause.
