UAB track & field has released its 2005 schedules, head coach Ray Stanfield announced Tuesday. The Blazers will have four indoor and six outdoor events to prepare for the postseason.
Among the highlights on the schedule are a trip to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., and Penn Relays in Pennsylvania, Pa, where the Blazers will compete against some of the country's top track and field programs.
"We are excited about our 2005 schedule," said Stanfield. "The quality of meets that are on our schedule directly reflects the quality of athletes that we have. The kids are looking forward to building on the success we experienced last year by running in several of the premier meets in the country."
The indoor schedule starts out at the Cougar Opener hosted by University of Houston on Jan. 15. The Blazers then travel to Carbondale, Illinois for the Saluki Invite on Jan. 21-22. After an off week, UAB heads to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 5. The Clemson Invitational on Feb. 12, in Clemson, S.C., will be the Blazers' final tune-up before Conference USA Championships on Feb. 24-26. The Championships will be held at the University of Houston.
The NCAA Championships will take place on March 4-5 in Fayetteville, Ark. and will be hosted by the University of Arkansas.
The outdoor season begins on March 17-20 at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala. UAB will next travel to the Florida Relays on March 24-26, before participating in the Texas Relays on March 31-April 2, in Austin, Texas. The Blazers' fourth meet in a row is the Governors Invitational on April 9, at Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tenn.
