RICHMOND, Ky. -- The UAB volleyball team rebounded from its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over UNC Greensboro on Saturday in the third match of the Nike Invitational in McBrayer Arena. The Blazers improve to 9-1 while the Colonels drop to 1-9 on the season. UAB freshman Ivana Bozic had a career-best 29 kills in the match and was named to the all-tournament team.
"We're happy with the way we bounced back in this match after suffering that first loss," said co-interim head coach Allison Magner.
The Blazers took advantage of 11 UNC Greensboro attack errors in the first game and cruised to a 30-16 victory. Game two was close the whole way, but Bozic led UAB with nine kills in the game and helped her squad take a two-game lead with a 33-31 win.
After the Spartans held on for a 34-32 victory in game three, the Blazers finished things off with a 30-22 win in the fourth and deciding game.
Nicole Bowland and Casey Dent also recorded double-digit kill performances with 13 and 12, respectively. Nevena Stefanov led all players with 55 assists while Amy White came up with a career-high 22 digs on the back row.
The Blazers open up Conference USA play this weekend when they travel to Rice on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. UAB will then return home to face Houston on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
