BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's track & field team will again face a highly-competitive schedule during the 2006-07 indoor and outdoor seasons, participating in some of the top collegiate meets in the country, announced Blazers' head coach Ray Stanfield.
There are eight meets on the schedule for the indoor regular season, which begins December 2 at the Clemson Opener in Clemson, S.C. Highlighting the indoor schedule is the Niswonger Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn. on January 26-27, and the Tiger Classic in Clemson, S.C. February 9-10.
The Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by the University of Houston on March 2-3 to round out the regular season.
The Blazers have 11 challenging meets on the slate for the outdoor season, beginning with the Southern Miss Invitational on March 10 in Hattiesburg, Miss. Some key events to look forward to are the LSU Relays (March 22-24), Florida Relays (April 6-7), Texas Relays (April 6-7) and the Drake Relays (April 26-27).
The 2007 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by Rice University on May 10-12 in Houston, Texas.
"This year's schedule will be both challenging and rewarding," said Stanfield. "To be able to run at places like Notre Dame, Drake, and the Texas Relays gives the girls an opportunity to show why we recruited them here at UAB.
"The program has really changed during my tenure here. The quality of athletes we have allows us to line up with the best in the NCAA."
