BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB track and field team is dedicated to increasing the skill of future track and field athletes in the Birmingham area. That is why UAB assistant coach John David Harris will be hosting the Blazer Speed Development Camp beginning in January.
The training sessions, which are geared towards boys and girls ages 13-18, will be held each Wednesday during the months of January and February, from 4-5 p.m. at the UAB Football Practice Fields. The cost is $20.00 per session and each session will last for one hour.
All athletes who are interested in receiving instruction in the use of proper sprint mechanics and the implementation of drills that will aid in speed development are encouraged to attend. Activities will vary from sport specific to general speed development. Also, the following biomotor abilities will be addressed: speed, stamina, strength, suppleness and skill/coordination.
Harris is in his first season as the assistant coach of the UAB women's track and field squad, spending the previous two seasons as an assistant at Wichita State. He is a graduate of Emporia State University, where he was a four-time all-conference selection as a middle distance runner.
