COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ----- Two UAB student-athletes have been honored by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as recipients of the organization's annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award.
Women's track and field athlete Oriana Carter and football player Clarence Respress were recently tabbed for the award that recognizes student-athletes' dedication to strength training and conditioning.
This year, the NSCA awarded 242 collegiate athletes from 160 schools with the award.
Respress, a native of Barnesville, Ga., will be a senior nose tackle for the Blazers in 2006. He was in on 16 tackles in 2005, registering three tackles for loss. Carter, a sprinter from Birmingham, has been a NCAA Outdoor Regional qualifier each of the past two years.
"The advantages of strength training and conditioning cannot be denied in collegiate athletics," said Robert Jursnick, the NSCA's Executive Director. "These student-athletes attest to this understanding, and are to be applauded for their hard work and dedication."
The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 27th year, and is made possible from a grant from Power Systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tennessee fitness product leader.
