HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP)--UAB quarterback Joe Webb passed for 200 yards and ran for 129 more, but the Blazers were held to a season-low point total in a 27-7 Conference USA loss to Marshall here Saturday.
It was an abundance of costly penalties that proved to be UAB's worst enemy on Saturday as the Blazers were flagged for 15 penalties for 135 yards.
The Thundering Herd's Brian Anderson threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns to help lead his team to the win.
Anderson was 25-for-38 for the Thundering Herd (4-3, 3-1 Conference USA), finishing a yard short of his career-high 316 set in the season-opening win over Southern Illinois.
Darius Marshall added 133 yards on 32 carries with a 1-yard touchdown for his fifth 100-yard game of the season.
Anderson completed a 30-yard scoring pass to Cody Slate with 12:30 left in the second quarter, then hit Chuck Walker with a 15-yard pass to give Marshall a 17-0 lead with 1:43 left in the first half.
The Blazers' Webb threw a 12-yard scoring pass to Mark Ferrell with 26 seconds left in the half to make it 17-7.
Webb was 16-for-27 for 200 yards passing and registered his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season, running for his 129 yards on 18 carries for UAB (2-5, 2-2).
