UAB Opens Outdoor Season This Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB track and field team will open its 2009 outdoor schedule on Saturday as they take part in Birmingham Southern's Southern Invitational.
The Blazers return to action after nearly two weeks removed from their last meet at the Conference USA Indoor Championships on February 26-27.
"This meet couldn't be coming at a better time for us," said UAB head track and field coach Ray Stanfield. "We were able to take a good break after the indoor season wrapped up. We have been having some good workouts as a result. It is also nice that we can have a chance to support Birmingham Southern in their inaugural meet."
UAB will be competing in a dozen of events at the meet, including the 3000-meter steeplechase, the 5000-meter run and the 100-meter dash.
The field events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. CT with the women's hammer throw. The running events also start at 10 a.m. CT with the 100-meter preliminary heats. All events will be held at Birmingham Southern's Panther Stadium.
