Two Blazers Land On C-USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Nora Mehl and Stephanie Gammon have been named to the 2009 Conference USA Women's Track and Field All-Academic Team, announced the league office on Tuesday. All-Academic Team selections must have achieved at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and served as a key component to their program's success.
"What a great way for these two young ladies to end the year," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "After a tremendous season as athletes, they have shown why they are really here at UAB. They are here to be great students and to continue the academic success we have had in the track and field program."
Mehl is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal recipient with a 3.86 GPA in psychology. She was the league's heptathlon champion at the 2009 C-USA Outdoor Championships and earned the bronze medal in the high jump. Most recently, Mehl placed seventh in the high jump at the NCAA Mideast Regional, earning a spot in the at-large selection pool for the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
Gammon is also a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal recipient with a 3.89 GPA in exercise science. After placing eighth in the 5,000m run at the C-USA Indoor Championships, Gammon claimed in the 10,000m at the 2009 Outdoor Championship.
