UAB Takes Two Event Titles To Close Niswonger Invitational

Johnson City, Tenn. - The UAB track and field team recorded two first-place finishes Saturday to conclude the Niswonger Invitational.
"I'm extremely proud of all of our runners," UAB interim head coach Kurt Thomas said. "As coaches we want to see the team get better with each competition and the team far and away exceeded our expectations today."
Sophomore Rhiannon Johns clocked a time of 9:57.50 in the 3000m to take the event title. Also in the 3000m, senior Kristina Olsen recorded a third-place finish with a time of 10:21.05.
The UAB distance medley relay squad ran to a first-place finish Saturday. The relay team, which consisted of sophomore Lauren Fayen, freshman Karina Expose, sophomore Lucy Taylor and senior Kendel Hood, recorded a time of 12:18.80.
Freshman Shakima Knox finished runner-up in the 60m dash finals with a time of 7.67. Fellow freshman Angel Watson placed seventh with a time of 7.77.
In the 60m hurdle finals, junior Samantha Hamilton posted a time of 8.84 to take fourth.
Le'Blanc placed fifth in the 800m finals with a time of 2:23.58.
In the 200m finals, Watson ran to a fifth-place finish with a time of 25.17.
"Everyone ran well from top to bottom," Thomas said. "UAB track had a great weekend."
The Blazers return to action Feb. 5 at the Alex Wilson Invite in South Bend, Ind.
