MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The UAB track and field team sent a squad to Middle Tennessee's Christmas Invitational Saturday. The Blazers competed in six events at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Sophomore Shakima Knox posted a third-place finish in both the 55-meter and the 200-meter events. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., product ran a personal-record time of 7.12 in the 55-meter, and crossed the line in 25.60 in the 200-meter.
"All around everyone executed really well in their races today," UAB interim head coach Kurt Thomas said. "Shakima had a personal-record 55-meter and ran really well in the 200-meter. Kelli Smith and Renay Ransaw showed all the hard work they've been doing by coming out and jumping really well in their first collegiate competition."
Smith tied for fourth in the high jump with 1.57 meters (5-02.00), while fellow freshman Ransaw placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters (19-02.00). Ransaw also finished as the runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.44.
Freshman Kyana White clocked a time of 26.16 in the 200-meter to place eighth.
The Blazers will kick off their 2011 indoor season Jan. 14 at the Saluki Open hosted by Southern Illinois.
