BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB's Rhiannon Johns has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV track and field/cross country second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This marks her first career academic all-district honor.
"I think it's tremendous recognition and well deserved," UAB head cross country coach/assistant track and field coach Blake Boldon said. "Rhi typifies what we try and accomplish at UAB cross country and track and field. She's a conference champion with a 4.0 GPA and does a tremendous job."
Johns, a mathematics major, boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. The sophomore distance runner was selected to Conference USA's Women's Track & Field All-Academic Team earlier this week, and was named to the 2009 C-USA Cross Country All-Academic Team last fall.
She is a two-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient and C-USA Honor Roll selection, and has received UAB Presidential Honors (4.0 GPA) and named to UAB's Dean's List every semester of her career.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada product qualified for the East Preliminary Round of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter events.
