BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Renay Ransaw, who won a pair of Alabama state high school long jump championships and went on to earn prep All-America honors, has signed to attend UAB, according to an announcement by Blazers' interim head track and field coach Kurt Thomas.
Ransaw captured state titles in the long jump as a sophomore and junior while at Lee High School in Montgomery. She attended Hampton High School in Hampton, Va. as a prep senior this past year and earned all-state honors.
While at Hampton, she recorded the nation's 10th-best high school performance in the long jump this year at the Landstown Invitational in May when she jumped 19-9.
Ransaw went on to earn high school All-America honors with her effort in the 100-meter hurdles at the New Balance National meet in Greensboro, N.C. in June.
"I am extremely excited about Renay becoming a Blazer," said Thomas. "She is one of those recruits you work on all year long and as she continues to improve, you get more and more excited about her. She is a great talent from the state of Alabama, via Virginia. She is talented in so many areas, and is such a motivated athlete that she will succeed in every capacity for us.
"To sign an All-American from the New Balance national meet this summer is great for our program," he said. "We have a great group of athletes for her to train with and ultimately be successful with for years to come. She can step in right away and be a great athlete for UAB, and we are happy to have her be a part of the UAB Track family."
