UAB Track & Field Concludes Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Sophomore Shakima Knox claimed the 60-meter title as the UAB track & field team concluded the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana Saturday.
The Tuscaloosa, Ala. native clocked a time of 7.60 in the event. Knox also ran to a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter invitational, with a time of 25.25.
"Day two went really well for our team," UAB assistant track & field coach Tony Houchin said. "A win from Shakima and strong performances from the rest of the girls are good signs of what's to come this indoor season. It was a good meet and we will continue to improve."
In the 60-meter hurdle finals, sophomore Akira McSwain crossed the line in 9.10 to place sixth.
Freshman Renay Ransaw leaped to a seventh-place finish in the long jump after recording 5.56 meters (18-03.00).
In the 600-meter invitational, junior Lauren Fayen ran to a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:36.55, while Bianca Le'Blanc placed fifth (1:38.11).
The Blazer 4x400-meter relay squad of Thelyssa Katchen, Kyana White, Rachel Harley and McSwain ran to a time of 3:58.27 to place eighth.
The Blazers will take a week off from competition before returning to action at the Niswonger Invite Feb. 4-5 in Johnson City, Tenn.
