BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- With the Conference USA Championship only two weeks away, the UAB track and field team will travel to Memphis, Tenn. this weekend to participate in the Memphis Tiger Invitational on Saturday, April 30.
Field events will commence competition Saturday at the Billy J. Murphy Track and Field Complex. The first collegiate running event will be the women's 4x100-meter relay at Noon CT.
The Blazers have had several notable performances in recent weeks, but Saturday's meet in Memphis will likely serve as more of a tune-up for UAB for the upcoming conference championship meet which is set for May 12-15 at Houston, Texas.
"Memphis should be a good last tune-up before the conference championship," said UAB head coach Kurt Thomas. "That's what a lot of our girls need right now. We've had a lot of PRs the past few meets and we just want to fine-tune our events, the 4x100m relay, some technical things and be really primed for C-USA's.
"The weather looks like it will cooperate with us, and as a staff, we are looking to execute our races and come away feeling really good about our performances and our fitness levels for the championships."
Among the schools scheduled to take part in the meet this weekend will be Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Christian Brothers, Harding, Ole Miss, Rhodes, SEMO, Southern Illinois, Tiffin and Conference USA foe and host Memphis.
