Track Wraps Up Auburn and Beach Invites

AUBURN, Ala./NORWALK, Calif –The UAB track and field team completed the Auburn Invite at the Hutsell-Rosen Track in Auburn, Ala. and the Long Beach Invite held at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif. on Saturday.
At Auburn, sophomore Angel Watson continued to excel on the track, bettering last weekend’s 24.13 performance with a time of 23.85 in the 200 meters – placing her second on UAB’s all-time list.
Senior Lauren Fayen placed second in the 800 meters with a season best 2:12.71, while senior Shannon Simpson placed sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:34.72.
Junior Rachel Harley crossed the line in fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles with a PR 1:00.05 time.
The foursome of Harley, Akira McSwain, Lytrice Thomas and Watson placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (season-best 3:43.80). The UAB “B” team of Shelby Barker, Kendra Gipson, Kyana White and Thelyssa Katchen took seventh in the same race with a time of 3:51.80.
At the Long Beach Invite, Lucy Taylor and Sarah Hudak set personal bests in the 800 meters finishing third and fourth, respectively, in their heat and seventh (2:09.47) and eighth (2:09.64) overall.
Kristina Vaughn finished fourth in her heat and 11th overall in the 1,500 meters with a personal-record 4:29.03 time.
The Blazers will compete in the Golden Eagle Classic hosted by Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Saturday, April 28 before racing in the C-USA Championships May 11-14 in New Orleans, La.
