BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB track and field team signed Autumnn Burnett of Duluth, Ga. to the 2013 roster, head coach Kurt Thomas announced Monday.
Burnett attended Peachtree Ridge High School. Her 100-meter hurdles time this year (14.09) is the 34th-fastest in the country among high school girls, while her 300-meter hurdles time (42.39) is 24th-fastest. Both times are Peachtree Ridge school records.
In addition, her 100-meter hurdle time is the sixth-fastest in the state of Georgia this year and her 300-meter personal best is the second-fastest.
"I couldn't be more excited to have Autumnn be a part of our team,” Thomas said. “She has great character and work ethic, and she is a fantastic student. She is the type of student-athlete we have and want here at UAB.”
Burnett won the 2012 Gwinnett County and Region 7-5A titles in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. She was the state runner-up in 100-meter hurdles and placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. The hurdler was selected to the Gwinnett Daily Post all-county team and was named to the Daily Post’s Super Six track and field list.
In 2011, she led PRHS to its first county title, winning the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdle events. Burnett is a three-time state qualifier in the 300-meter hurdles and two-time state competitor in the 100-meter hurdles.
“Autumnn had a great senior season,” Thomas said. “She worked really hard and I believe she is just starting to tap into her potential. I’m excited to get to coach her next year and for her college career."
