Four Blazers Named To USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Rachel Harley, Sarah Hudak, Rhiannon Johns and Elinor Kirk have been named to the All-Academic Individuals List, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Wednesday.
Johns is a three-time recipient of the award while this is the second consecutive year that Harley and Hudak have been honored. This is the first selection for Kirk.
Harley, a senior majoring in exercise science with 3.46 GPA, qualified for the NCAA East Regional after a third place showing in the 400-meter hurdles at the C-USA Championships. After posting a personal-best time of 58.76 in the qualifier of the NCAA Regional, Harley was unable to make it out of her second heat to advance to the finals.
A clinical nutrition/dietetics graduate student, Hudak has maintained a 3.52 GPA at UAB. At the Conference USA Championships, Hudak captured her second consecutive 1,500-meter title. But having to run two races within an hour’s time at the NCAA Regional, Hudak was unable to advance in either the 1,500-meter or the 5K events.
Last month, Johns, a graduate student majoring in science with a 3.42 GPA, was also named a second-team All-American by the USTFCCCA after concluding her Blazer career with a 12th place showing in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Kirk, who is also in graduate school with a 4.00 GPA in communication management, was also tabbed an honorable mention All-American after her performance in the 5,000-meter run in Eugene. Kirk also ran the first sub-16 minute 5k (15:59.57) in school history at the NCAA East Regional Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.25 grade point average and either be ranked nationally during the indoor season or participate in any round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
