KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The UAB track and field team wrapped up this weekend's action at the Tennessee Relays with top-five finishes in the triple jump and 4x100-meter relay on Saturday at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
"Overall, this turned out to be a good meet for us," UAB head coach Kurt Thomas said. "A lot of our girls are starting to put together better jumps, races, handoffs and hurdles. They are really stepping up at the right time."
Kendra Gipson set a new personal-best in the triple jump, leaping 12.32 meters (40-05 feet) to place third. Her previous best was 12.18 meters (39-11 1/2 feet) at the Raleigh Relays.
"Today, Kendra had a big jump in the triple," Thomas said. "That was great to see for her and we feel like she's just getting started on bigger jumps."
UAB finished fifth in the 4x100-meter relay with a season-best time of 46.34. Renay Ransaw, Leila Elliott, Autumnn Burnett and Kandiss Briggs served as the foursome for the relay.
"The 4x1 had good handoffs, so that will clean up the relay more - better races are ahead," Thomas said. "We have a few more meets to continue to improve and get ready for C-USA's, but I'm really proud of the team and the way they are competing."
