Coffin Wins 3000-Meter Steeplechase at C-USA Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Hannah Coffin won the 3000-meter steeplechase with the third-fastest time in school history to lead UAB at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships from the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
Coffin turned in a time of 10:34.71 to become the second-fastest performer in the 3000-meter steeplechase in school history. Only Kristina Vaughn has run a faster time than Coffin in UAB track and field history.
Fellow distance runner Lucy Crookes tallied seven points for the Blazers with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters and a sixth-place finish in the 10,000 meters. Crookes raced to a personal-best time of 16:37.94 in the 5,000 meters to go along with a 35:38.39 mark in the 10,000 meters.
Middle distance runner Jenna Wesley scored five points with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters following a time of 2:11.63. The Griffin, Ga., native would also pick up three points after placing sixth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:34.34.
In field events, senior Avril McGhee added one point after she turned in a personal-best distance of 40-05.00 to go along with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump.
Ali Meister picked up three points for UAB by finishing sixth in the heptathlon with a career-high 4,856 points. Meister opened competition Thursday on day one with a personal-best time of 14.30 in the 100-meter hurdles en route to a fifth-place finish.
After taking sixth place in the high jump with a height of 5-02.50, Meister placed seventh in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 33-10.00. She capped day one with an eighth-place showing in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 26.16.
Day two saw Meister record a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 18-06.00 to go along with a ninth-place showing in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:28.94.
