JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UAB distance runner Lucy Crookes capped her season Saturday at the NCAA East Preliminary with a 26th-place finish in the 5,000 meters from Hodges Stadium.
Crookes, who finished fifth in the 5,000 meters earlier this month at the Conference USA Championships, turned in a time of 16:52.98 Saturday evening and was the top finisher from Conference USA.
"Lucy ran smart tonight and put herself in position to finish the season on a high note," UAB associate coach Matt Esche said. "Whenever you come in and finish higher than you were seeded, you did a tremendous job. What a great way to end a very solid career."
Crookes entered the meet ranked 47th in the NCAA in the event.
