Blazers Top Morehouse College in Exhibition Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jalen Perry scored 19 points off the bench and the UAB men's basketball team used a late run to defeat Morehouse College 84-69 Thursday evening in an exhibition game from Bartow Arena.
Chris Cokley poured in 16 points and 12 rebounds and Nate Darling added 17 points and hit four 3-pointers as UAB finished 10-for-21 from beyond the arc. Nick Norton chipped in with 11 points in his first game back after returning from an ACL injury.
Martravious Little paced Morehouse College with 21 points and five rebounds and Tyrius Walker finished with 18 points and four assists.
Morehouse College built its largest lead of the game late in the first half when Keyshun Jacobs hit a three-pointer with just over five minutes before halftime. Two free throws and consecutive triples from Norton and Perry put the Blazers ahead 34-33 with 1:34 on the clock.
A pair of free throws from Jordan Wallace gave the Maroon Tigers the lead with three seconds remaining, but Zack Bryant raced the length of the court on the ensuing possession to give UAB a 36-35 lead at halftime.
UAB and Morehouse College went back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes of the half before the Maroon Tigers cut the lead to four on a layup from Walker at the 9:50 mark. That's when the Blazers answered with a 13-4 run over the next five minutes to build a 75-62 lead.
The Maroon Tigers failed to score a field goal over the final 3:05 and UAB used a dunk from freshman Makhtar Gueye on its final possession to take its largest lead of the game.
UAB raises the curtain on the regular season Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. when the Blazers welcome Jacksonville to Bartow Arena.
