Blazers Travel to Troy for Non-Conference Tilt

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's basketball team plays its first true road game of the season Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Blazers head to Troy, Ala., for an ESPN3 matchup with Troy from Trojan Arena.
UAB (5-3) enters the week coming off a 71-56 victory over Memphis in the ninth annual Gene Bartow Classic. Chris Cokley poured in 18 points and 10 rebounds to register his fourth double-double of the season and Nate Darling added 14 points and hit a season-high three 3-pointers.
Jalen Perry chipped in with 10 points and a career-high seven rebounds off the bench to help the Blazers post their first win over the Tigers since 2006.
Cokley continues to serve as the offensive catalyst for UAB with 18.1 points and 10.1 rebounds to go along with a .602 field goal percentage. The Savannah, Ga., native is fourth in Conference USA in scoring and first in rebounding and is one of only seven players in the nation to average at least 15 points and 10 rebounds while shooting at least 60 percent from the field.
Freshman Zack Bryant stands second on the team with 13.8 points per game and Perry ranks third with 10.4 points per game. Lewis Sullivan and William Lee add 6.0 and 5.5 rebounds per game, respectively.
Troy (5-3) is on a three-game winning streak following its 87-66 victory Nov. 29 against Illinois-Chicago. The Trojans have not lost since falling 70-62 at No. 8 Kentucky on Nov. 20.
Senior guard Wesley Person leads Troy with 19.5 points per game and is making 48.5 percent of his three-point attempts. Junior Jordon Varnado adds 19.0 points per game and paces the Trojans with 7.3 rebounds per game.
UAB and Troy will meet on the hardwood for the 10th time in school history when the two teams battle on Tuesday. The Blazers hold a 9-0 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 2008-09 season. In the most recent meeting, UAB posted a 74-51 victory last season in Birmingham behind 18 points and eight rebounds from Cokley.
Overall, UAB has won eight of the nine all-time meetings with Troy by double digits and has an average margin of victory of 16.4 points per game.
