BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a solid season-opening performance against Georgia, the UAB men's basketball team gears up for its final exhibition of the season when it welcomes Morehouse College to Bartow Arena on Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip.
The two programs last faced in exhibition play a year ago, with the Blazers coming away with an 84-69 victory on the back of a 19-point display from Jalen Perry.
"What I am really looking forward to seeing is how well we can bounce back after a tough game," head coach Robert Ehsan said. "I think we showed a lot of positive signs against Georgia, especially on the defensive end of the court. We have continued to get better in practice as we head into our final tune-up game. It should be a good test for us."
In its last game, UAB found itself within a possession of SEC foe Georgia, but could not get a bucket to fall in the final seconds as the Blazers dropped a heartbreaker to the Bulldogs, 56-54, during the Hoops Season Tipoff Event.
Sophomore Zack Bryant paced all scorers with a game-high 14 points on 6-of-15 shooting, while Perry also added double figures with 12 points. Senior Lewis Sullivan and junior Will Butler each scored nine points in the game, while hauling in six boards and seven boards, respectively.
Bryant enters the season as a member of the Conference USA Preseason Team after his stellar rookie campaign in which he he broke the freshman scoring record with 448 points. The team was picked to finish eighth in the league in the preseason poll.
Morehouse College enters the season ranked No. 17 in the NABC after finishing last season 25-3 overall and 18-1 in the SIAC. The team went on to win the regular season title before falling in the SIAC Tournament Semifinals to Claflin.
The Maroon Tigers look to replace the production from the BOXTOROW Division II Player of the Year and First Team All-American in Tyrius Walker. The team plans to accomplish that with the help of 12 returning upperclassmen, including senior Omar Alston who returns double-digit scoring.
No live stream or radio broadcast will be available for Thursday's game, but live stats will be available through uabsports.com and can be found here.
Individual season tickets for the 2018-19 UAB men's basketball campaign are on sale and start as low as $105 in Blaze's Corner.
