BIRMINGHAM - In midst of a five-game homestand, the UAB men's basketball team hosts Troy on Friday night at Bartow Arena. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
The Blazers (7-4) have never lost to Troy in 10 games and the two teams have played annually since the 2008 season. This will be the sixth game in Birmingham between the two school.
UAB is 5-0 at Bartow Arena this season and 47-8 dating back to the start of the 2015-16 season. The Blazers have especially been impressive in nonconference action at home and are 18-2 in such games with Robert Ehsan at the helm.
Senior guard Jalen Perry has found his scoring groove of late and is averaging 15.5 points over his last four games. He has been in double-figures in all four of those games, include three of which were 17 points or more. He scored a career-high 18 points last week against No. 8 Auburn.
Zack Bryant continues to lead the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game and had his first career double-double against Auburn two games ago with 13 points and a career-best 10 rebounds.
In the post, Makhtar Gueye is coming off a career-high 15 points in UAB's last game out against Alcorn State. Gueye was 6-of-9 from the floor and also tied his career-high in assists with three.
Troy (5-5) has won two games in a row, including most recently defeating C-USA preseason favorite WKU 87-81 on the road. UAB will have to contend with interior presence Jordon Varnado who leads the Trojans with 16.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
