UAB Travels to Gainesville for the Florida Relays

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB track and field team is back in action for the third weekend in a row as it travels to Gainesville, Fla., for the Pepsi Florida Relays March 29-31.
The Blazers will be competing against 11 nationally-ranked teams and a total of 102 universities. The Florida Relays traditionally boasts a strong sprint and relay field which will provide a good test for UAB.
In their first two outdoor meets this season, the Blazers have turned in strong relay times. Last weekend, the 4x400, 4x800 and the 1600 SMR relay teams all placed in the top-5 with the 4x8 finishing third.
In the season's opening weekend, the 4x100-meter relay won the event and posted UAB's fastest season opening time in more than 10 years at of 45.61 seconds.

"This is a world-class meet and we'll be competing against some of the best programs and athletes in the country," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "It'll be a great test for all of our girls and with how well our relays have run, we're hoping for more fast times and hopefully we'll put ourselves in a good spot as well prepare for the conference meet at the end of the season."
What to Watch
- UAB had 10 athletes along with its three relay teams post top 10 performances.
- Among those performances, the Blazers had one relay team and four athletes place in the top-3 in their respected events.
- Ali Cichos finished second in the 100-meter hurdles a week ago and placed fourth in the event in the first outdoor meet of the season at South Alabama.
