Blazers Take Two Game Winning Streak on the Road

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a successful 2018 debut, the UAB volleyball team heads out on the road to play in the Skyhawk Invitational hosted by UT-Martin. The tournament gets started on Friday, Aug. 31 and concludes on Saturday, Sept. 1.
UAB begins play against undefeated Central Arkansas at noon before wrapping up day one against Florida A&M at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Blazers play UT-Martin and longtime rival Memphis at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
"We're excited to get back out, compete and see how we've improved from last weekend," Amy Pauly said. "We have some great competition ahead of us and it will be tough and challenging to play four matches in 48 hours. It's going to be a great test of our character."
The Green and Gold will be playing rematch games from a year ago against Florida A&M and UT-Martin. UAB beat Florida A&M at home in four sets, but lost to UT-Martin in straight sets in the Dunn Hospitality Tournament.
UAB and Memphis have met 52 previous times, with the Tigers holding a 34-18 advantage. Central Arkansas and UAB will meet for the first time in program history.

- UAB opened the season 2-1 with wins over SIUE and Wisconsin-Green Bay in the Cowtown Classic.
- Alex Kells, Anna D'Cruz, Haley Fuller, Brianna Muller and Erica Schilling made their UAB debuts last weekend. Kells, D'Cruz and Fuller redshirted last season.
- Sophomore Abby Carlile set a career high in kills with 12 in UAB's 3-0 win over Green Bay.
- Emily Martinez, Shelby Holderfield and Muller all racked up over 20 digs during the opening weekend.
- Holderfield picked up right where she left off last season, tallying 90 digs over the three games.
