BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Riding its best start since the 2013 season, the UAB volleyball team takes its 6-2 record on the road this weekend to Clemson, S.C. for the Big Orange Bash.
UAB will face off with Clemson on Friday, September 7 at 7 p.m. before playing North Dakota and Troy on Saturday, September 8 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. The Blazers' match with Clemson will be available via livestream on the ACC Network+ with links found on the UAB volleyball schedule page.
The Blazers enter the tournament weekend, coming off a sweep of in-state rival Alabama State on Tuesday night. After a tough first set battle that saw UAB fight back from being down 24-21 to win 27-25, the Green and Gold settled in to win the next two sets 25-16 and 25-13.
That toughness will be needed this weekend as all three opponents come into the tournament with a winning record. Clemson and North Dakota both sit at 4-3, while Troy is 4-2 on the year. However, history is on the Blazers' side as they have a combined 29-10 record against this weekend's competition.
UAB is 5-3 all-time against Clemson, 1-0 against North Dakota and is 23-7 against in-state rival Troy.
Sophomore Abby Carlile is the reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for her performance during the Skyhawk Invitational. The outside hitter racked up 54 kills on a .372 hitting percentage and set a new career high in kills with 19 against Central Arkansas. She hit .500 against Florida A&M, picking 14 kills.
Shelby Holderfield has 297 assists through the first eight games of the season and is averaging 10.61 assists per set, good for third in the conference. Meanwhile, Brianna Muller and Emily Martinez have 84 and 72 digs, respectively, and both rank in the top-20 in Conference USA.
With one win this weekend, the UAB volleyball program would claim its 700th win all-time.
