MEMPHIS, Tenn.- The Blazers dropped their fifth straight match Tuesday night at Memphis by a score of 4-1.
Memphis (8-2-0) started the scoring in the 12th minute after a blocked shot landed at the feet of Christoforos Kourtis who passed it to Sam Ashton who sent it into the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season.
Eight minutes later the Tigers would score again this time from Kourtis. The Blazers would find themselves down 3-0 at the half after Jackson Morse headed in the third Memphis goal off a corner kick.
In the second half, UAB (1-8-1), found some energy putting pressure on the Tigers after halftime. Kevin Wallace registered the first shot of the night for the Blazers, but his attempt was blocked by the Memphis defense. A minute later Willsey League's shot would be smothered by the Memphis goalkeeper.
In the 72nd minute UAB would get on the board off a penalty kick from junior Krenar Krasniqi after the Tigers fouled the Blazers inside the box during a UAB corner. Krasniqi banked the ensuing penalty kick off the left post into the right corner of the net for his first goal of the season.
The Blazers momentum was stopped in the 82nd minute when the Tigers scored their fourth goal of the night off a penalty kick.
UAB registered three shots on the night, all coming in the second half of action. The Blazers were outshot 17-3 by the Tigers.
"Tonight, was about finding out who we are," said head coach Jeff Kinney. "We learned a lot from the night and we now know what makes us successful and what doesn't. We look forward to getting back into training and getting back to who we are."
UAB will host South Carolina on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at BBVA Field for Bark at the Park. Fans can bring their dogs to the park or adopt one there through the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter.
