UAB Falls to Texas 67-57

AUSTIN, Texas – UAB battled hard, but fell to Texas 67-57 on Tuesday night at the Erwin Center.
Tavin Lovan scored 12 points, Tyreek Scott-Grayson added 11 and Tamell Pearson had a career-high 10 for the Blazers (5-3).
Andrew Jones scored a game-high 20 – including six 3-pointers – for UT (7-1).
The first five minutes of the 1st half was played close with four lead changes until a 19-6 run by Texas gave them their first double-digit lead of the game, 12 points at 27-15. A subsequent 10-0 run gave the Longhorns its largest lead of the game, 17 points at 32-15 with 6:47 remaining. UT would take a 38-25 lead into halftime.
UAB came out of the gates in the 2nd half by scoring the first eight points to cut the deficit to five points at 38-33 at the 17:20 mark. It was still a two possession game after Scott-Grayson's 3-pointer made the score 44-38 at 14:03.
Back-to-back buckets by Pearson and Scott-Grayson got UAB within seven points with 3:17 left, but UT's Jones answered with a 3-pointer to put the Longhorns up 65-55.
UAB's next game is home against No. 15/18 Memphis in the 10th annual Bartow Classic. The nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network will have a 4:30 p.m. tipoff.
