GULF SHORES, Ala. – The UAB beach volleyball team concluded the inaugural March to May with a pair of 4-1 victories over Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist on Sunday at The Hangout in Gulf Shores.
The Blazers improved their record to 7-5 overall and have now won three-consecutive matches. In the process, Tressa Buckland notched her 40th career win, becoming just the seventh player in program history to reach that milestone.
UAB opened the day with a win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi. After playing Friday's matches on court two, Kenley Adams and SalliAnne Napolitano moved back to court one and notched a three-set victory over Selina Marolif and Abby Devido, 21-23, 24-22, 15-10.
Court two for Jaelyn Keene and Jayme Bratsberg, along with court three for Tressa Buckland and Annie Pringle were straight-set victories, while TAMCC won its only match on court four. Ashlee and Brooke Stansel rounded out the 4-1 win on court five with a 21-18, 21-19 triumph over Brooke Adkisson and Sam Dumity.
In the afternoon match against Houston Baptist, head coach Kyra Iannone shook up the lineup and the Blazers didn't miss a beat.
Adams and Napolitano remained on court one and were victorious in straight sets, but Iannone switched pairs on courts two and three, both of which were wins for UAB.
For the first time this year, Keene teamed up with Buckland on court two and they topped Natalie Bennett and Maddie Butters 21-15, 21-14. Court three saw Bratsberg and Pringle win 21-14, 21-12 over Kylie Bryan and Lindsay Harris.
Andraka and Gathright rounded out the UAB efforts with a three-set victory on court five over Meagan Carter and Danielle Wheeler, 19-21, 22-20, 15-10.
