COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UAB beach volleyball team will take on three nationally ranked opponents this weekend at the Gamecock Grand Slam, which is set for Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, hosted by South Carolina.
Along with playing No. 10 South Carolina, the Blazers will face No. 12 Stetson, No. 18 Georgia State and Eastern Kentucky. UAB will have a chance to notch conference wins when it squares off with South Carolina and Georgia State.
At 7-5, the Blazers are coming off a weekend in which they went 3-1 when they hosted the inaugural March to May in Gulf Shores. While there, UAB was victorious over Southern Miss, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist.
This weekend, UAB will return to the site of where they tallied the program's most historic victory when the Blazers beat No. 8 South Carolina 3-2 on their home court last year. The win marked UAB's first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent in school history, and it was also the Blazers' first-ever CCSA regular season victory.
The top eight players on UAB's roster all enter the weekend with identical 7-5 records, while Ashlee and Brooke Stansel saw their first collegiate action last weekend and posted a perfect 2-0 record on court five.
With three victories last weekend, Tressa Buckland became the seventh player in program history to reach the 40 wins plateau.
