Track and Field Heads to Charlotte for Conference USA Championships

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB track and field team travels to Charlotte, North Carolina to take part in the Conference USA Championships this weekend.
"We are excited to compete at our best at the C-USA Championships this weekend," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "The girls have been focused and training well and ended the regular season with lots of good times and performances."
The championships begin on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. with day one of the heptathlon and decathlon, with the two events continuing into Friday.
Day two of the championships kicks off at 2 p.m. with the women's hammer throw final, while events get underway on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the women's discus throw. Day three will feature three women's field event finals before the 3000 meter steeplechase concludes Saturday competitions at 7 p.m.
The final day of the championships begins at 1 p.m. with the women's shot put and wraps up with the 4x400 meter relay. Sunday spotlights four women's field event finals while also featuring 10 women's track event finals.
"Emily Drouin has had a great track season and we're looking for her to continue to perform well in the steeplechase and 5000 meters," Thomas said. "Zieandrea Bridges has thrown well and we are looking for her to step up at the championship meet also. Marielle (Lewis), Cele (Moon), Serena (Martinez), Katie (Nelson), Brittany (Floyd) and the relays are all ranked in scoring position. We need to step up and in every event to score points."
