UAB Volleyball Travels to Houston For Series Against Rice

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB volleyball team makes the trip to Houston when they take on Rice Sunday and Monday at Tudor Fieldhouse.

The first meeting between the teams came in 1984 in Starkville, Miss. The last win for the Blazers came in 2013 during the first round of the Conference USA Championship.

SCOUTING THE OWLS

Rice dropped three out of four nonconference games to begin the season. The Owls bounced back to begin conference play with four three-set sweeps over Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss.
The Owls have had two players of the week to open conference play. Nicole Lennon won Offensive Player of the Week and Carly Graham earned Setter of the Week.
Graham leads all of Conference USA in assists per set (12.96). Anota Adekunle ranks fourth in the NCAA among active players in career hitting percentage (.395).

THE LAST TIME OUT

UAB split their series with UTEP. The Blazers took the five-set win in match one. The Miners took a three-set sweep in match two.
In game one, Fernanda Maida tied a single-match record with 26 kills on the day.

STATS RANKINGS

Maida leads the conference in attacks per set (12.23) and sits No. 15 nationally. In kills per set, Maida ranks No. 3 in conference (4.41) and No. 26 nationally.
Tatijana Fucka sits at No. 7 in the conference standings in blocks per set (1.00).
Brianna Muller ranks fifth in Conference USA with 0.43 aces per set.
