BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Volleyball Team prepares for postseason play in the Bluegrass State. The Blazers travel to Bowling Green for the C-USA tournament, where they will take on the UNT Mean Green on Friday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m.
The Blazers, who finished the season closing out with an overall record of 12-14 and 7-7 in conference play, hold the No. 5 spot entering the tournament. UAB was predicted to finish sixth in conference play.
"This is the highest a UAB Volleyball team has finished the regular CUSA conference since 2012, and that is something we are really proud of," said head coach Betsy Freeburg. "Our team has faced so much adversity this season, and while the fifth place finish is a great accomplishment, we still know there are more opportunities ahead of us."

SCOUTING THE MEAN GREEN
UAB and UNT are no strangers, meeting only a week prior in Denton in the final week of conference play. The Blazers fell to the Mean Green in a three-set match, which pushed the Green and Gold into the No. 5 spot as the regular season comes to a close. UAB is on a three-match losing streak against UNT, with their last win against the Mean Green coming in February of 2021.
The Blazers and Mean Green are in close quarters statistically, with two players from each team sharing the leaderboard in kills (Fernanda Maida, Treyaunna Rush, Alex Kells, Aryn Johnson). As a collective, Mean Green holds the No. 5 spot in kills with an average of 12.73 per set. In blocks, UNT is ranked third in the conference, averaging 2.44 per set.
North Texas currently sits in fourth place in the conference entering tournament play.
QUOTES FROM BETSY FREEBURG
"We are working hard on getting in rhythm offensively and stopping a balanced attack. We will continue to lean on our service pressure we put on UTEP for our future success against North Texas."
"We felt like North Texas played a great match against us last week. We are more comfortable in our lineup today than we were then, and we have been able to make tweaks in our game plan that will help slow down their offense."
