UAB MBB Hosts SEC Foe as South Carolina Travels to Bartow Arena

BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's basketball (7-2) faces an SEC foe inside of Bartow Arena for the first time since 2016 as South Carolina (5-4) comes to Birmingham on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. CT.

SERIES HISTORY
South Carolina leads the all-time series 3-1. UAB's lone win in the series came in 1986 at home. The Blazers fell 66-63 on the road in Columbia last season. Head Coach Andy Kennedy is 8-10 during his career against the Gamecocks.

LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers went on the road for the first time this season to West Virginia. Despite taking the lead midway through the second half, UAB fell 81-70. Javian Davis was a bright spot for the Blazers, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds. He was efficient from the field, going 7-for-9.

UAB VS. THE SEC
The Blazers are 33-41 overall against current SEC teams. An SEC opponent has not played at Bartow Arena since the Blazers fell to Auburn 74-70 in 2016. Earlier this season, UAB picked up a win over Georgia in the Sunshine Slam. The Blazers have not defeated two SEC opponents in one season since 2009-10.

MAKING HIMSELF KNOWN
Eric Gaines had a career night when the Blazers defeated Presbyterian (Nov. 16). The LSU transfer matched his previous career high of 16 points while shooting 7-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2 from three. He dished out a career-best 10 assists for his first collegiate double-double. Gaines has recorded six or more assists in four of nine games this season. The electrifying guard has made SportsCenter's Top Ten plays twice this season with his electrifying dunks.

WELCOME TO THE 1K CLUB
KJ Buffen, Tavin Lovan and Jordan Walker each surpassed 1,000 points in their collegiate careers with the Blazers. Buffen, Lovan and Walker are joined by brothers Ty Brewer and Ledarrius Brewer to have scored more than 1,000 points in their college basketball careers. UAB is the only known program in Division I with five 1,000-point scorers.
