Box Score Postgame Press Conference

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball (9-2) stormed out to an early lead against Southern (4-8) on Sunday afternoon to take a 92-66 victory. Jordan Walker finished with 25 points and six assists in only 22 minutes to lead the Blazers.

UAB scored a season-high 60 first half points while shooting 56 percent from the field. After scoring only three points over the first 10 minutes, Walker caught fire. Jelly scored 14 points over the next six minutes to help the Blazers stretch the lead to 32 at the half.

Eric Gaines scored nine points in the first half while going 4-for-5 from the field.

Walker got the Blazers going again in the second half. He scored eight of UAB's first 11 points over the first four minutes of the half, including a pair of threes.

After Walker's quick start to the half, the Blazers struggled from the field. When Walker left the game in the second half with 14:16 on the clock, UAB went missed its next 14 attempts from the field until Ledarrius Brewer hit a three with 5:52 on the clock.

The Blazers shot only 25.9 percent (7-29) from the field in the second half.

NOTES

The Blazers hit a season-high 11 3-pointers, including six from Walker.
UAB grabbed a season-high 55 rebounds, including 16 offensive boards.
Walker finished with 25 points and six assists in only 22 minutes. He surpassed 1,500 career points during the game.
Ledarrius Brewer finished in double figures with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Trey Jemison matched his career high with 14 rebounds.
Javian Davis recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards.

The Blazers start conference play on Thursday against Charlotte at Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
