BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's basketball (9-2) begins its final run in Conference USA on Thursday evening against Charlotte (9-2). Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Bartow Arena.

The game will be a contrast in style. While UAB ranks No. 3 in the nation in adjusted tempo according to KenPom while Charlotte ranks last in the nation at No. 363.

SERIES HISTORY
The Blazers lead the all-time series 32-19. However, the 49ers have won three of the last four meetings between the two teams. Charlotte has not played in Bartow Arena since February 9, 2019. The Blazers and 49ers split the only two meetings of the Kennedy era during a back-to-back in Charlotte during the 2020-21 season.

UAB dominated Southern in the final non-conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon, 92-66. Jordan Walker scored 25 points and dished out six assists in only 22 minutes of game time. The Blazers scored a season-high 60 first half points. Javian Davis finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.

Tavin Lovan is set to play in his 138th game as a Blazer on Thursday. He will break his tie with Anthony Gordon for the most games played by an individual at UAB. Lovan is playing his fifth season in Birmingham and he has scored 1,321 points and grabbed 537 rebounds while shooting .524 from the field.

In October, the league's coaches selected UAB as the favorite to win the Conference USA regular season championship for the second consecutive year. The Blazers, who are coming off their first CUSA tournament championship since 2015, earned nine of the 11 first-place votes.

KJ Buffen has been one of the Blazers' most consistent players this season. He is scoring 11.5 points per game while grabbing 7.1 rebounds per game. Buffen scored a career-high 25 points with eight rebounds in the Blazers' win over South Carolina, leading the team in both categories. In nine of the Blazers' 10 games, he has shot over 50 percent from the field.
