BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's basketball (7-1) faces its first true road test at West Virginia (7-2) on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT. The Blazers are looking to pick up a second win over a power-conference opponent after defeating Georgia earlier this year.

SERIES HISTORY
The all-time series is tied between the two schools. The Mountaineers took last year's meeting 65-59 at Legacy Arena in Birmingham. Head Coach Andy Kennedy's lone win against West Virginia came during his lone season at Cincinnati.
LAST TIME OUT
Jordan Walker led the Blazers to a 76-68 win over South Alabama with 30 points and eight assists. The contest marked the first time that UAB had been held to fewer than 80 points in a game this season.
MENTOR AND MENTEE
UAB head coach Andy Kennedy and West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins share a longtime friendship. Kennedy was an assistant coach under Huggins from 2001-05 at Cincinnati, which is where Kennedy got his first head coaching position for the 2005-06 season before coaching the next 12 seasons at Ole Miss. AK is looking for his first win against his former boss. Huggins is 3-0 against Kennedy in the two coaches' respective head coaching careers.
LEADING THE NATION
Jordan "Jelly" Walker currently leads the nation in points per game at
25.7. He dropped 38 points in the season opener against Alabama State, the most scored by a UAB player in a season opener ever. Walker then captured Sunshine Slam MVP honors after scoring 31 points to go along with 6 rebounds, five assists and five steals against Georgia. He earned C-USA Player of the Week honors for his performance in the tournament. He joined Andy Kennedy (7) and Carlos Williams (6) as the only two players in program history to score 30+ points six or more times.
FAST PACED, HIGH POWERED OFFENSE
The Blazers are yet again one of the highest scoring teams in the country under Andy Kennedy. After finishing the 2021-22 season ranking sixth in points per game nationally, UAB once again finds itself in the top ten. At 90.1 points per game, the Blazers currently rank fourth in Division I. According to KenPom, the Blazers' tempo ranks seventh in the nation.
