SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series 2-1 over the Tigers. Clemson won the last meeting between the two teams, 70-52, in the 2011 NCAA Tournament First Four. That season was Brad Brownell's first at the helm at Clemson.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers played a rollercoaster opening contest against Bradley, falling 73-71 in overtime. UAB trailed by as many as 20 points in the first half before erasing the deficit in the second half. Trailing by 16 at the break, the Blazers went on a 31-8 run to open the period and take an 11-point lead with under seven minutes remaining. However, Bradley was able to storm back and force overtime, where the Braves would score with two seconds on the clock to win it.
VETERAN PRESENCE
Javian Davis enters his final year of eligibility in 2023-24 and is primed to play a big role on this year's UAB team. Davis averaged 6.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last season while splitting time with Trey Jemison. Davis opened the 2023-24 season with a career performance against Bradley, scoring 20 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and securing four steals while shooting 8-for-9 from the field.
PORTAL TALENT
The Blazers brought in four players from the transfer portal in the offseason. Barry Dunning Jr. transferred to UAB from Arkansas where he played in 16 games during his freshman season. Another newcomer, James White, also came over from an SEC program at Ole Miss. White averaged 4.0 points last season for the Rebels. Daniel Ortiz joined the Blazers from North Alabama where he led the Lions in scoring in back-to-back seasons, averaging 14.6 points per game over two years. The final transfer, Will Shaver, returned home to Birmingham after spending two seasons at North Carolina. Shaver was a member of the UNC team that made a run to the national championship game.
