BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball (4-4) fell to Southern Miss (4-4), 85-82 at Bartow Arena, snapping the Blazers' five-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles. Alejandro Vasquez led the Blazers with a career high 26 points.

The Blazers jumped all over Southern Miss in the early stages, taking a 15-point lead at the 5:50 mark in the first half. UAB went on a 15-3 run after leading 24-21 in the first half that was capped by a Christian Coleman dunk and an Eric Gaines steal and lay-in to give the Blazers a 39-24 advantage.

Southern Miss, however, outscored the Blazers 22-7 over the final 5:50 in the first half to knot the score at 46 apiece heading into the break.

The Golden Eagles took their first lead of the night after the first minute of the second half. USM was unable to stretch it beyond a one-possession game early and the Blazers stormed back with a 7-0 run that was punctuated by a Christian Coleman dunk, giving UAB a 59-54 lead.

Yet again, Southern Miss responded with a 12-2 run and the Blazers did not lead for the rest of the night. Austin Crowley hit a three and then knocked down a pair of free throws to push the USM lead to six points with less than two minutes to go. Javian Davis responded with a three-point play to cut it back to a one-possession game at the 1:14 mark.

Victor Hart was the hero for Southern Miss, and he scored the final two of his 26 points with 47 seconds to go, pushing the lead to five. UAB could not hit either of its three-point attempts as time ran down, only adding a layup just before time expired.

Alejandro Vasquez added a career high 26 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Christian Coleman shot 5-for-5 from the field en route to a career high 14 points. He also grabbed four rebounds, had two assists and one steal.
The loss snaps UAB's five-game winning streak over Southern Miss.
The Blazers have allowed over 80 points in three-straight games.
UAB shot 22-for-33 from the free throw line, a season-high in attempts.
The Blazers have shot a combined 17-for-57 (29.8%) from the field in the second half of each of the last two games.
The final margin in six of UAB's eight games has been by three points or less.
